Bests Gigs Ever

I was cleaning my storage closet and found this old list I had made of the best shows I ever saw:

1. No Mind
2. Nash the Slash
3. Exploited
4. No Means No
5. Grave Concern
6. Gogol Bordello
7. National Velvet
8. The Gruesomes
9. Pink Floyd
10. The Cure
11. Massada
12. Violent Femmes
13. Bran Van 3000
14. Damo Suzuki
15. Shuffle Demons
16. Aisha Kandasha's Jarring Effects
17. Iz Cox
18. S.N.F.U.
19. Anal Chinook
and I could add:
20. Petunia and the Vipers
21. Bruce Peninsula
22. The Swans
23. A Silver Mt. Zion
and many more if my memory was just a bit sharper. I guess that's why I wrote the list in the first place.

Well, my computer was down and out for quite some time. At least I couldn't keep it alive for more than about half an hour at a time, so I havn't been doing any online art. Now I'm back in the game and just catching up on all the things I missed doing since Yule.

Finally got to see Korpiklanni- one of my favorite bands, from Finland. The show was amazing. I'm not a big metal head- always more into the punk stuff, other than a few classics like Black Sabath and Motörhead. But I have to say that seeing bad metal bands is a lot more fun than seeing bad pop bands (like I do almost every time I go to a show recently). Not that all the (5!) opening bands were bad. In fact they all put on great shows and some of them even had good music. Highlights were a local band: Les Batards du Nord, who had an incredible stage show- with fire and dancing and a line of viking warriors beating their shields with swords for percussion backing. Next: Swashbuckle, Pirate Metal band- who looked like a joke band but stirred up the second meanest (in a good way) mosh pit I've ever seen. (And I've seen a lot. #1 goes to The Exploited.)

Anyway, nice to be stable again.

Jazz Fest = two weeks of free shows.
Montreal is the city of festivals and I've actually been taking advantage
of the music for a change.

This past month I've seen Bloodshot Bill, Gerard Van Herk (of Deja Voodoo!)
Pauline Oliveros, The American Devices and NoMeansNo.
Plus a few jazz bands (most notably a great 'Hot-Club-of-Paris meets country dance band' style group called: Gadji-Gadjo, though there was also that Stevie Wonder show that opened the festival. That was crowded.)

The Orb was supposed to play this week, but was canceled, making this the FORTH TIME I only thought I was going to get to see them play. But there are tons of other great shows coming up. Hope I can survive...

work = play

Feels good to be doing a bit of my own art this week. I have to get better habits.
I've been watching more movies- just finished watching Firefly (the whole season, two episodes per night) and I think the time I took out for that really helped me have more energy for doing my own work.

I've been taking pictures and working on my newest font, but not doing anything to upload here. Some stuff is in the works, but coming along slowly...
